Tobacco Free Partnership

Florida Department of Health in Madison County

Tobacco free partnerships are invaluable to the success of both our state and local tobacco control programs. Tobacco free partnerships play an important role in developing local policies and providing direction for our local tobacco control programs. They bring a diversity of lived experiences, viewpoints, and skills to tobacco control efforts. Tobacco free partnerships increase public awareness of tobacco issues and expose tobacco industry tactics. They also expand community involvement and promote buy-in for policy change. Through education and advocacy, tobacco free partnerships shape social norms regarding tobacco use while creating environments that support tobacco free policies.

The SWAT members who are involved at the county level are considered members of the local tobacco free partnership. They work collaboratively with the adult members of the tobacco free partnership. SWAT members conduct surveillance, educate, and mobilize their peers and community members about tobacco issues, participate in media advocacy, and present to decision makers.
