School health services are vital to schools because children spend over one-third of their day at school. Without school health services students would not have access to immediate health care needs at the time it is most needed.
What kinds of services do students need during the school day?
School health staff provide services to a steady flow of students in the school health clinic for any number of reasons, including but not limited to:
- Administration of prescription and over-the-counter medications
- Administration of state-mandated health screenings (scoliosis, hearing, vision, height and weight)
- Emergency first aid treatment
- Handling acute illnesses
- Management of complex or chronic health conditions
- Health Education Classes
- Monitoring state immunization compliance.

School health clinic staff is professionally trained to advocate for children's health and safety within the educational setting. Typically, school health staff is comprised of:
